Android and iOS | Parent and school portals update
Effective date: [insert publication date for this portal release]
These terms explain how adults, families and authorised schools may use HOPE, including its creative activities, progress system and online features.
About these terms
These terms govern access to and use of HOPE on Android and iOS, including painting tools, built-in creative content, levels and tasks, parent and child profiles, parent-approved friends, local school and classroom tools, online multiplayer drawing, and saving and sharing functions. HOPE is provided by A Collection of Hope Ltd. Adult users should read these terms and supervise use by children. Acceptance of these terms is separate from any consent required for processing personal information.
The applicable terms of the store used to obtain the app also apply. Mandatory consumer rights are not affected.
Who may use the app
Adults may use HOPE themselves and allow children in their care to use it. Parent accounts must be managed by a parent or guardian authorised to act for the relevant child. School accounts must be managed by authorised school staff. Adults should decide whether activities are suitable for the child and supervise participation, photo selection and sharing. A teacher account does not by itself establish parental consent for processing a child’s information.
[Confirm any minimum ages for adult accounts and children, supported territories, and the implemented adult verification or consent process before publication.]
Access and cost
The current painting and progression features are available without an additional payment after the app is downloaded, but some levels and their content become available only through the task-and-day progression described below. The user is responsible for a compatible Android or iOS device, an internet connection for online parent accounts, friend requests, multiplayer, downloading and updates, and any charges from the device, network or destination service they choose to use.
[Confirm that portal and multiplayer features are also available without additional payment, and that single-player painting can still be used without an account. Disclose any charges before users incur them.]
Parent accounts and friends
Provide accurate account information and keep passwords and access to your registered email secure. Do not impersonate another parent or create or manage a child’s profile without authority. Contact corporate@humanitarianoperations.org if you suspect unauthorised access.
Friend requests require approval by both the sending child’s parent and the receiving child’s parent before the friendship becomes active. Adults should approve only connections they consider appropriate and supervise the resulting online activities. Approval does not establish the other participant’s identity or guarantee their conduct. Do not bypass parental approval or share another child’s code without authorisation.
[Confirm that both approvals are enforced by the released backend and specify the available remove-friend, block, reporting and social-feature controls.]
School and classroom use
Authorised staff may create teacher profiles, classes and student records for legitimate educational activities. Use only the pupil information needed for those activities and comply with your school’s policies and applicable data-protection duties. Protect student identifiers and teacher sign-in details from unauthorised access.
School records are currently stored on the device and are not synchronised through the parent-portal AWS service. Records are not automatically shared across teachers’ devices. Online classroom drawing uses the multiplayer service and transmits the information needed for participants to join and collaborate. Keep suitable records or backups where permitted by your school’s policy; clearing app data or losing the device may remove local records.
[Confirm the school’s and provider’s data-protection roles and any separate school agreement required for this release.]
Online multiplayer and conduct
Multiplayer drawing uses Photon and requires an internet connection. Participants may see the display names and artwork shared within their session. A parent admitted as a spectator can view the shared activity. Use nicknames where possible and do not include private contact details, home addresses or other sensitive information in names or drawings.
Treat other participants respectfully. Do not share unlawful, abusive, discriminatory, sexually explicit or exploitative material, threaten or harass others, impersonate users, or attempt to bypass room permissions or drawing-area restrictions. Adults should supervise children’s participation.
Other participants may capture what appears on their screens. Share only content appropriate for everyone admitted to the session. If an activity becomes unsafe, leave the session and ask a responsible adult for help. Adults can report concerns to corporate@humanitarianoperations.org without sending unnecessary personal information about children. We may take proportionate action, including restricting online access, to address misuse or protect users.
[Describe the reporting, blocking, moderation, room-access and adult-control features actually available. Do not advertise controls that have not been implemented.]
Levels, tasks and timed unlocking
Level 1 is available when the user starts. To unlock a later level, the user must both complete the tasks assigned to the current level and allow the required number of days to pass. The app may show task progress and day progress separately. The applicable task and day requirements are shown in the app.
All tasks for a level may be completed on the same day, but the next level will not unlock until the required day count has also been reached. A task is credited only when the relevant action is actually completed; merely selecting a tool, colour or activity may not count. Completed tasks are retained locally so progress can continue when the app is reopened.
Progress and elapsed-day calculations rely on information stored locally and on the device’s date. Deleting the app, clearing its data, replacing or resetting the device, changing device settings, or failing to restore a compatible backup may affect or reset progress. Users must not deliberately manipulate device settings or app data to bypass level requirements.
We may adjust level content, tasks, required days or unlock rules in a future update where reasonably necessary to improve, balance, maintain or secure the app. Any change will remain subject to rights that cannot lawfully be excluded.
Multiplayer drawing does not count towards single-player tasks. Local task, day and level progress is separate from online account records; creating a parent account does not by itself provide a cloud backup of that progress.
Licence to use HOPE
We grant a limited, non-exclusive and non-transferable licence to install and use HOPE for personal, family and authorised classroom educational activities on compatible devices you own or are authorised to use, subject to these terms and applicable store usage rules. This includes use by schools for teaching, but does not permit resale of the app or separate exploitation of its built-in assets. The app is licensed, not sold. Any termination or restriction of this licence remains subject to the Ending use section and mandatory legal rights.
Acceptable use
The user must not:
- copy, sell, sublicense, rent or commercially exploit the app or its separate built-in assets except where law expressly permits it;
- reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble, modify or attempt to discover the app’s source code, except to the limited extent that applicable law does not allow this restriction;
- use the app to create, store or share material that is unlawful, abusive, discriminatory, sexually exploitative, harmful to children, or that infringes another person’s rights;
- interfere with the app’s operation, security or integrity; or
- misrepresent a connection with HOPE, us, Apple or Google.
Paintings and imported material
The user keeps any rights they already own in original paintings they create. We do not claim ownership of those original paintings. The user is responsible for making sure they have permission to use any photo, image, logo, character or other material imported into a painting and for checking that any shared result is lawful and appropriate.
The user may save or share personal, non-commercial paintings created with the app’s tools and built-in creative elements. This does not give the user ownership of, or permission to extract, resell or separately distribute, HOPE artwork, characters, stamps, branding, software or other built-in assets.
When you choose online multiplayer, you authorise us and the service providers operating that feature to transmit, process and display your contributed content to the relevant session participants to deliver the activity. This permission is limited to operating the requested service and does not transfer ownership or authorise unrelated advertising use. Copies independently kept by other participants may remain outside our control.
Our intellectual property
HOPE, its software, visual design, branding, characters, built-in artwork, sounds, text and other content are owned by or licensed to us and are protected by intellectual-property law. All rights not expressly granted in these terms are reserved.
Photos saving and sharing
Photo selection, saving and sharing occur only when the user chooses those actions and grants any permission requested by Android or iOS. Available controls may vary by device and operating-system version. The user controls the selected image and destination. When a painting is shared to another app, person or service, that destination’s terms and privacy practices apply. A parent or guardian should supervise these actions when a child uses the app.
Privacy and child safety
The HOPE App Privacy Policy applies to both Android and iOS. It explains the different handling of local painting and school records, online parent and child profiles, friend requests, multiplayer information and support messages. Online features process personal information even when single-player activities can be used offline.
Adults should review the policy before creating child profiles or enabling online activities. Do not include unnecessary personal information in shared drawings or display names. Parental approval of a friendship is not a substitute for any consent or authorisation required for collecting or using a child’s information.
Updates compatibility and availability
We may provide updates to improve, secure or change the app, including its levels, tasks and unlock rules. Compatibility can depend on the device and its Android or iOS version. Features, permissions and release timing may differ between platforms. We may change or discontinue features or the app where reasonably necessary, but we will not reduce rights that cannot lawfully be excluded.
We aim to keep HOPE working reliably, but we cannot promise that it will always be uninterrupted or free from every error. Users should save important work and keep an appropriate backup where the device allows it.
Ending use
You may stop using HOPE at any time. Uninstalling the app can remove local information but does not delete online parent accounts or related server records.
You may request account deletion by emailing corporate@humanitarianoperations.org from your registered email address with the subject HOPE Account Deletion Request. Specify whether you want the whole account or a particular child profile deleted. We may verify ownership or parental authority; do not send your password. The Privacy Policy and account-deletion page explain the affected data, processing time and any retention.
[Insert the published deletion-page URL and the implemented in-app deletion route for each platform. Users of the iOS app must be able to initiate deletion without being required to email support. Confirm the processing timeframe and retained data before publishing.]
We may suspend or end access for a material breach of these terms or where reasonably necessary to protect users or the service. Where appropriate and safe, we will explain the reason and allow the user to contact us about it. Ending access does not remove applicable privacy or consumer rights. Provisions intended to continue after use ends, including ownership and legal rights, continue to apply.
Legal rights
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits responsibility where doing so would be unlawful, including responsibility for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation. Nothing in these terms affects any mandatory consumer rights available under applicable law.
App store terms
For the iOS version, the applicable Apple App Store terms and Apple’s standard end-user licence agreement apply unless a valid custom licence agreement is supplied for the app. For the Android version, the applicable Google Play terms govern use of that store. These service terms do not replace mandatory store terms or rights that cannot lawfully be excluded. HOPE is provided by A Collection of Hope Ltd; app support requests should be sent to us.
[Confirm whether App Store Connect uses Apple’s standard EULA or a custom EULA. If a custom EULA is selected, review its required Apple provisions separately.]
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms to reflect changes to HOPE, law or security. We will publish the revised terms with an effective date and provide reasonable notice of material changes where required. Changes will not remove rights already accrued or mandatory legal protections. Where required, we will seek agreement or consent before a change takes effect.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. The courts of England and Wales will have non-exclusive jurisdiction, which means a consumer may also be entitled to bring a claim in the courts of the country where they live.
